Day 24, TX, Sanderson to Seminole Canyon

Michael, Jim, and I went across the street again for the best food in Sanderson. That's not saying much since it's a truck stop. Breakfast burritos did the trick though and we hit the road about 8:30.
You can see the evil freezing fog in the distance behind us.
It was low forties when we got up but the cold fog leftover from yesterday started to cover us and the temp dropped noticeably. We did have a tailwind that pushed us and helped keep us warm. We stopped several times to shed clothes as it heated up. The first "town" we hit was Dryden. We didn't expect anything to be open there but the combo post office, limited grocery store was open. The wind was still pretty cool but by mid afternoon it was in the upper 60's.
I loved the geology visible in the road cuts. This one looked like blocks of stone in an old Roman wall.
We crossed some canyons that were quite scenic.

This one was dry but the next one was the Pecos River.
I think the Pecos River is flooded upstream aways from the Amistad International Recreation Area which is a Dammed portion of the Rio Grande.
Next stop was our intended destination, Langtry. Don't expect much if you order the Sloppy Joe special here. We made such good time with the tailwind and Langtry was not too inviting, we pushed on to Seminole Canyon State Park, just a few miles short of Comstock.

That was a good choice, we got a few more miles with the wind and it's a nice, quiet area with showers and tent pads.
On the road between Langtry and the State Park we lost Michael, or rather he lost us. Jim was about 50 feet ahead of me climbing a hill and Michael was a couple hundred yards behind me but gaining. When I looked again less than a minute later I didn't see him. I yelled at Jim and we stopped and waited a few minutes. When he didn't appear Jim went back a quarter mile and looked with no sight of Michael. Jim rode a mile and a half back, far beyond the point I last saw Michael and still no sign of him. We waited awhile longer and decided Michael turned around without telling us and went back toward Langtry. We can't imagine why he would do that without telling us but there's no other explanation.

85 miles today with an average speed of 14.8.

    1. Thanks Noah, it's good to hear my friends enjoy my blog but better than the movies? Only if the movie doesn't have zombies!
