Day 34, TX, Bastrop to Carmine

Low clouds/fog but around 40.
The rustic shower we used last night. One of three actually, all in a row. The worst part was one hand was always needed to spray yourself with the garden hose nozzle.
We had about 4 miles to ride into Bastrop for a bite to eat at Starbucks. Hwy 71 was crummy for bikes but we weren't supposed to be on it. We only used it because we were off course at the RV park and it was the most efficient way back to the route.
We got our own bridge across the Colorado River In Bastrop. It was the old bridge but it worked for us!
There's more than one Colorado River. This one is less hard working compared to the one that dug the Grand Canyon.
Just east of Bastrop we entered Bastrop State Park as part of the route. Bypassing the pay station we rode on through pretty, narrow roads that entered an area that burned a few years ago. We came to a barricade blocking access to the rest of the burned park. Of course we rode around the barrier since we only needed to pass through and the road itself was fine. In fact it was more than fine, since the road was closed there was no traffic.....for 13 miles!
Actually it was two parks almost adjacent and joined by this road. We came out in Buescher State Park which had largely been spared the fire.

According to our map this store was supposed to be open. The owner didn't get the memo apparently. We did use some of our own snacks here and pushed off for La Grange. Jim fancied a BBQ place before La Grange and we ate a late lunch.
In La Grange we turned north and managed to get a headwind even though it was a SW wind earlier, and we climbed steadily all the way up to Carmine. Halfway to Carmine the road shoulder disappeared making traffic dicey.
We got a pretty campsite again but there were some issues. Hot water in the shower was exhausted quickly so Jim finished with cold water. A washing machine malfunctioned after taking a dollar in quarters.
72 miles today.
