Day 25, TX, Seminole Canyon to Del Rio

Our beautiful, balmy, star filled, crickets chirping, evening was yanked out from under us when the cold north wind started slapping us around in our tents at 3:00 in the am. Jim started rustling around at 6:30 so I got up too though the warm sleeping bag is really tough to leave when it's cold, windy, and dark.
It turned out to be warmer than it would be after we left the camp ground. The temp dropped noticeably and the wind was gusting to 25 out of the north as we rode east. We didn't get any help from the wind for 10 miles until the road curved to the south east and then south.
These man made canyons provided some shelter from the wind as well just being fun to look at.
We stopped at the first "town" (using quote marks to indicate the town has one business open) and were hoping for a sit down breakfast. We got a two pump station with snack food and a chain smoking employee sitting in the back of the room on her laptop. At least we got out of the bone chilling wind for 20 minutes.
We continued on toward Del Rio where we could camp in the yard of a "Warm Showers" host.
Dex Tooke met us on the road on his bike and led us to his place. He is an ultra distance bike racer and has solo ridden the Race Across America (RAAM) two times. We set up our tents and Dex drove us to lunch and shopping.
Showers and laundry back at Dex's and he had the 2005 RAAM documentary that we enjoyed watching. We ate a lovely dinner with Dex and Joni.
32 miles today.
