Day 38, Silsbee, TX to Merryville, LA

It's foggy and 65 this morning. Everything was wet with the dew. Even the bikes under the roof of the picnic area were wet.
We got under way before 8:00 and rode the shoulder of the 290 freeway north to Evadale, TX for breakfast. It didn't look promising from the freeway so continued on to Buna. I think we found the only non-fast food restaurant in Buna, an Italian/Mexican place.
Halfway to the next town, Kirbyville, we ran into the three cyclists we saw yesterday, Adam, Rosie, and Dan. We rode together for 20 minutes until Jim and I had stop for his fifth flat.
Of course it was a rear again which is dealing with the greasy chain/derailleur. Whatever it was had disappeared after the tube was damaged.
We rolled through Kirbyville and Bleakwood (aptly named) stopping for drinks in the last Texas town, Bon Wier.
The Sabine River is the state border here.
Twenty two days in Texas! I'm ready for a different state. The skies are gray here but it's pretty comfortable in the low 70's. It's humid enough that my sweat doesn't dry as I ride and I'm soaked when I stop. There are worse problems to have.
We joined the Southern Tier Riders convention in Merryville. Adam, Rosie, and Dan were talking with a westbound couple from Vancouver Island, BC. Steve and Dodie were on Bike Fridays (a folding bicycle) seen closest to the camera.
Camp for night is on the grounds of the Merryville Historical Society and Museum. We are next to a 131 year old cabin that needs restoration. The water had been off here for campers but the museum caretaker called the mayor and he/she made the repairs happen today. Hurray for hot showers!
We ate great burgers across the street for lunch.

54 flat miles today
