Day 36, TX, Richards to Shepherd

Ernie and Doris came down before we left and it was nice to visit with them. I think this was the warmest morning on the trip (about 50) despite the clouds/fog.
The sign shows we have 1220 miles left to St Augustine. One of their cows bent the wheel I'm leaning on.
It's nice to see the gradual transition of climate and vegetation. We rode through the Sam Houston National Forest for about 10 miles.
We saw this sign in the National Forest. It did look like the perfect home for Sasquatch. I was looking hard after the sign but only saw imagined "Wood Apes".
It included Lake Conroe where a number of people were out fishing on a Sunday morning. It looks like we could be in Louisiana already in places with lots of standing water and vines in the trees.
We finally reached the first town with a restaurant, New Waverly, and had breakfast just before noon.
Continuing east, local hwy 150 was too busy forcing us onto the rough shoulder much of the time. I got spoiled by all the lightly travelled back roads recently.
Passing through Coldspring and Shepherd, we went off route a couple of miles to our destination for the night, Shepherd Sanctuary Campground.
It's a whimsical and eclectic collection of cabins and main building.
I set up my tent, Jim is sleeping on a couch in the courtyard.
63 miles today
