Day 29, TX, Lost Maples to Kerrville

Some time after midnight the temp plummeted and we woke up to ice on the tents again. We had to breakfast on what we had with us because there is nothing (not even cell service) but Texas hill country for 35 miles.
This is looking down toward the Lost Maples Natural Area where we camped last night.
This is halfway up the first climb, again with the camera held as level as possible to show the steep grade.
I wanted to show the roughness of the typical chip seal on Texas roads. Not only are the rocks an inch long, the road surface is lumpy. I would like to lower my tire pressure to cut down on the jarring but would run the risk of pinch flatting on bridge expansion joints.
After the first climb this morning we rode on a hilly plateau for 16 miles before following the Guadalupe River Into Hunt and then Ingram. The river is really pretty after so many dry river beds.
In Hunt we had expensive hamburgers but we were famished by then. We were going to try for Fredericksburg but in Kerrville I didn't have any more energy after the endless hills three days in a row. I developed a cough last night that may be sapping some of my energy too. A warm showers contact came through in Kerrville so we are indoors tonight.
44 miles today. 2 days of cold, wet weather predicted for tomorrow and Tuesday.
