The rain started early in the morning but was really light. It rained harder just as we were getting ready to leave. Perry made an egg and potato dish for us that was very tasty. She wanted Lep to drive us out to a certain point to get ahead of the rain but we wouldn't hear of it. It was in the 60's so we got wet one way or the other, rain or sweat. We rode past "Dixon Correctional Institute" right off this morning. They also ran the cattle farm on the other side of the road. A few miles away was the State Mental Hospital. The abandoned original mental hospital was so old and crumbling I wish I had taken a picture.
We saw a lot of these signs today even though we were off route almost all day. Perry suggested taking hwy 10 the whole way to Franklinton and it was fine. Traffic was light and we had a pretty good shoulder but for a couple of miles. We saw a convience store with a deli but it was closed on Sunday. We stopped at a quick mart a few miles down the road. It had a big notice painted on the outside wall "No drinking or Hanging around outside the store". That's exactly what a dozen local people were doing. Some of them were impressed with our ride.
There wasn't too many picture opportunities, especially when it was raining. This small cemetery was about 5 miles from the end of the ride.
Still kind of foggy and gloomy.
In a town of 3900 this was the only motel. Luckily it was $62 and pretty decent. We wouldn't have been able to dry anything out if we were camping and more rain is predicted tonight.
76 miles today.
Wow, such a great trip. Great pictures Perry!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I started worrying when I hadn't taken any pictures the first half of the day when it was raining.
