Day 42, LA, Simmesport to Jackson

We rolled out about 7:30 looking for breakfast. We ran into Henry and he said there were two places to eat. Both were not real restaurants but ya gotta eat.
He gave us an alternate route to Morganza.
This is the bridge over the Atchafalaya River right next to Henry's farm.
The alternate route cut off some mileage and was still good for cycling, aside from the rough spots in the pavement
The worst part of the ride today ( near this picture) was on the ACA route, a mile long bridge with no shoulder over a flood control area.
After lunch at an upscale riverfront  restaurant in New Roads, we headed for the new, and beautiful "John James Audubon" Mississippi River Bridge.
That's the big one, the mighty Mississippi.
Another milestone, we are now east of the Mississippi! In a few days we'll be in the eastern time zone with three hours difference to my home.
Today we saw racoon, possum, beaver, otter, weasel, hawk, skunk, and various domestic animals. Unfortunately they were all victims of vehicles.
We are staying with Perry and Lep at their bicyclist only hostel/camp just outside of Jackson, LA. We were treated to their great facility and fed a fabulous dinner. What a pleasure!

Apologies to readers for the late posting of yesterday's blog entry. I was horrified this morning when I realized I missed the posting because I watched a movie last night.

A special thanks to Dr. Cox @ Sound Health Chiropractic in Anacortes for getting my back fixed and able to ride before I left on this trip!

58 miles today.
