We continued on to Votaw and it's burger joint was closed. In fact the only sign of life in that little community was the loose dogs chasing us. I got chased by quite a few dogs yesterday and today. Jim would pass first and stir them up, then they were ready chew on a cyclist when I got there.
I remember the Trinity River from my days in Fort Worth. It's pretty good sized this far south but it rained in this area recently too.
Typical Texas two lane. It's a big state and you have to drive fast to get anywhere. That's 5 mph more than we can legally do on Interstate-5 back home.
There's more truck traffic today than anything, including logging trucks. I dove off the pavement twice for trucks that passed me with traffic going the other way at the same time. All the logging trucks have little trees, 6 to 8 inches at the base and tapering to a point.
Arriving in Silsbee we ran into 3 southern tier riders and stopped to chat awhile. They were sightseeing in several towns, taking their time. They left San Diego a month ahead of us.
At the Red Cloud RV Park in Silsbee, TX. Nice place but expensive, $15 each. It evens out, we paid $5 each yesterday.
Tomorrow we leave Texas!
63 miles today.
